Codan 8580 Modem
The term "Codan 8580" frequently
shows up in connection with the CCIR 493-4 related selective-call system
used by several radios manufactured by companies such as Codan, Barrett,
Q-Mac etc.!
This is however
a misnomer!
The "Codan 8580" modem is
only capable of transmitting the following modes:
-
SITOR-A
(100 Bd FSK ARQ mode, 170 Hz shift, based on CCIR 476-4)
-
SITOR-B
(100
Bd FSK, 170 Hz shift, collective FEC mode based on CCIR 625)
-
SELFEC (100 Bd FSK,
170 Hz shift, selective variant of SITOR-B)*
*SELFEC is a slight modification
of SITOR-B, where the traffic is directed to specific recipients whose
selective call is being transmitted as part of the data stream.
